James David Adams received his PhD from UC San Francisco in 1981 in Pharmacology and Toxicology. His postdoctoral experience was at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MarylandJamea David is an Expert in medicinal plants, human drug metabolism, herbal remedies, antioxidants and drugs for the treatment of stroke. He has worked on cytochrome P450 metabolism of ketamine, phencyclidine and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the laboratories of Neal Castagnoli, Anthony Trevor and Don Jerina. He has expertise in smart" drugs, human metabolism of pharmaceutical drugs, toxicity testing, oxygen free radicals, vitamin E and other antioxidants, Parkinson's disease, ruptured berry aneurysm, stroke, nicotinamide apoptosis/ delayed cell death, herbal drugs. Dr. Adams's lab holds the patent for use of nicotinamide (vitamin B3) to treat stroke and other forms of neurodegeneration. He has written over 160 publications, six books and 60 abstracts.
Dr. Adams is currently working on California medicinal plants. He was trained for many years by Chumash people and is a Traditional Healer. He has written many books and articles on Traditional Healing.

In order to combat the epidemic of childhood obesity, there is a pressing need to understand the association among different factors (genetic and non-genetic) and childhood obesity. Dr. Mathur is working to establish the association of several factors and obesity among children and examine the moderating role of birth weight, race, and maternal smoking status during pregnancy.
