Abstract
Little research is available on loneliness of clinicians. This brief paper has amassed those studies that are available to demonstrate that there are, indeed, multiple negative effects of the stressful work of clinicians: physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, psychoanalysts, and psychotherapists. Loneliness is the most severe of them, and needs to be addressed. The common suggestion, now, is via professional social support, from supervisors and peers alike.
