  • Abstract

Abstract
We experienced a case of a 20-year-old woman who presented with a massive lung hemorrhage in about one hour and 30 minutes after successful weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) while undergoing elective repair of atrial septal defect (ASD). Our case indicates that there is a possibility that patients with severe lung bleeding cannot maintain oxygenation. In these cases, it would be mandatory to reduce the pulmonary circulation, to promote the hemostasis and to increase the systemic arterial perfusion with the immediate use of the extracorporeal life support (ECLS), which is essential for improving the prognosis of patients.

Keywords: Atrial septal defect, Cardiopulmonary bypass, Hemoptysis, Pulmonary edema, pulmonary hypertension.
