BIOGRAPHY:

Leljko Jaksić awarded his PhD degree in biotechnology at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. He is a senior research scientist at the Ruder Boković Institute Center for Marine Research, Rovinj, Croatia. His principal research interests are molecular toxicology of marine species. His principal research curiosity is molecular toxicology of marine species. He is actively working at the interface between molecular biology, toxicology and the environment. His research has focused on the development of novel immunoassays and analytical biochemical techniques for DNA integrity determination programmed cell death mechanisms and protein modulation by xenobiotics which is orientated towards estimating the toxic and genotoxic risk to marine invertebrates in both controlled laboratory conditions and their natural habitat. Integrated system biology of marine ecosystem, OMICS technologies coupled with bioinformatics are areas of present scientific interest. As a guest scientist he spent several months at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and University Johannes Gutenberg in Mainz and University of Stuttgart, Germany. At the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia, he lectures on Biochemistry and the Biological effects of xenobiotics. He is author and coauthor of numerous scientific articles and specialist book chapters.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Molecular toxicology, ecotoxicology, marine environmental toxicology, marine biotechnology, nanotoxicology, nano-risk, OMICs technologies, system biology
