BIOGRAPHY:

Jose E. Celis obtained his Master of Science in Natural Resources from Michigan State University, and his Ph.D. degree in Environmental Sciences from EULA-Centre of the Universidad de Concepcin and University of California-Davis. Prof. Celis accomplished his Postdoctoral Fellowship from Crocker Nuclear Laboratory, University of California-Davis. He is at present holding the position of Professor of Environmental Sciences at Universidad de Concepcin, Chile. He has involved with soil bio-remediation by using paper mill effluents, sewage sludge and salmon sludge. His present research focuses on ecotoxicology, conducting extensive research evaluating the sub-lethal effects of a wide-range of persistent contaminants on the physiology of wild animals. During the last years he has worked with trace elements, pesticides (e.g. dieldrin, HCH, DDT and derivatives, and endosulfans), and industrial pollutants (polychlorinated biphenyls). In terms of species, although most of his work has been focused using seabirds as animal models, Dr. Celis has recently began research with fishes and aquatic invertebrates. He is a fellow member of the Chilean Soil Science Society, and a Certified Natural Resources Professional.
