BIOGRAPHY:

Christian De Guzman graduated from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños in 2001 with the Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. He worked in a private seed company as a research farm supervisor and then a corn breeder developing sweet and waxy corn for the Southeast Asian market. He joined the LSU Agcenter in 2010 as a visiting research associate in the rice genetics lab and after one year received an assistantship for a PhD program. During his graduate studies, he investigated the genetics and discovery of QTL/genes in male sterile lines for hybrid rice laying the foundation for hybrid rice breeding in Louisiana. He finished his PhD in Agronomy with emphasis on plant breeding and genetics in 2016 at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge La., USA. Currently, he is the Missouri Rice Breeder at Southeast Missouri State University. His research focus is developing conventional long and medium grain rice as well as rice with herbicide tolerance adapted to the Southeast Missouri conditions.
