BIOGRAPHY:

Nishimura obtained her BSC (in Biological Sciences) and PhD (in Genetics) from Institute of Biosciences, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. During her PhD, awarded in 2006, she identified a gene related to a rare form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and has been working on molecular biology of neurodegenerative disease since then. Since she joined KCL in 2006, she has been working on stem cells to model ALS and fronto temporal dementia.
