BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. Alcides Troncoso is Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Buenos Aires. He is also a of the Department for Specific Prophylaxis and Tropical Medicine Univ. Buenos Aires. Dr. Troncoso received his medical degree from the University of La Plata with Honors. He completed his internship and his residency at Infectious Diseases "Francisco Muiz" Hospital, Buenos Aires, as well as the University of Buenos Aires Medical Center. He did postgraduate work in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Univ. Buenos Aires, and Clinical Tropical Medicine at the La Plata School of Medicine. He has received numerous honors and has held medical society positions worldwide. He has participated over 20 years in workshop presentations, lectures, conferences and on specialist professional committees of the Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Troncoso is currently the Principal or Senior Investigator on over a dozen studies, including several multicenter clinical trials. Dr. Troncoso has been very active in teaching and infectious diseases research in recent years, having published more than 130 peer-reviewed articles and 35 books in the past 14 years. He has worked over 16 years on HIV/AIDS infection and other infectious diseases. He currently serves on the Editorial Boards of Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine , and half a dozen other journals, and on the Advisory Board of the Infectious Diseases Journals. He is a renowned senior lecturer in the fields of travel and tropical medicine. In recent times, he has been guest lecturer on a programme of visits to Universities and conferences across Latin America and Europe. He is currently working on development of new clinical services and education students to support care of patients with infectious and Tropical diseases.
