BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. Thomas Santoro received the MD degree at New York University School of Medicine. He did his internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. After completing training in Internal Medicine, Dr. Santoro did an Arthritis Foundation Fellowship at Duke where his research focused on the study of autoimmune diseases. He then spent 3 years at the Arthritis Branch of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD as a fellow in rheumatology and concentrated his research on the immunopathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus. He subsequently spent 5 additional years at the NIH as a Guest Researcher. Dr. Santoro served on the faculty of the University of Colorado School of Medicine & Health Sciences, the Medical College of Ohio, and the University of North Dakota School of Medicine prior to joining the faculty at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP). At the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Dr. Santoro is Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, Designated Institutional Official and Professor of Medicine, Section of Rheumatology. His clinical research interest focuses on the etiopathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. As Head of the residency programs at UICOMP he also has a strong interest in graduate medical education.
